The Moshood Abiola polytechnic, Abeokuta yesterday held its 34th convocation ceremony.
The event was well attended by the commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Modupe Mujota, the acting rector among other principal officers.
The matriculation was held without students admitted into National Diploma programmes.
The event was also held in the absence of the media which had been covering all events in the school for a very long time.
It is even more surprising that NTA and the state owned OGTV were not present.
A lecturer in the institution name withheld has described the inability of the school to admit into ND programmes as ‘shame’.
Following the intended update of MAPOLY into a degree awarding institution, admissions the institution was suspended.
While the principal speakers delivered their speeches at the recently held matriculation ceremony, none talked about the admission of students into National Diploma programmes.
Recall that the State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun gave a four year running-time for MAPOLY before its upgrade. This has enabled the institution to admit into Hgher National Diploma programmes so as to ensure all students within its system graduate before the upgrade proper.
Meanwhile, there are speculations that the school will admit ND students for 2018/19 session.
This will however, leave the 200 level/ ND2 classes vacant for the session as none were admitted during the 2017/18 session.
