The speaker, Students’ Representative Council, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Durodola Folorunsayo has revealed factors responsible for the challenges bedeviling students’ transportation from town to campus.
In an exclusive interview with Press Club MAPOLY, the speaker blamed the scarcity of shuttles on the upgrade of MAPOLY to university which has raised lots of doubt on the existence of MAPOLY.
Folorunsayo who claimed to have taken steps on the issue also revealed that drivers in a bid to meet targets decide not to travel far but turn at convenient locations.
In his words, "Well, I took a step by meeting the Shuttle Drivers Chairman in person of, Mr Adesanya and I told him our challenges. I was not happy with what he told me then.
“The major cause is MAUSTECH/ IPOKIA issue. When these drivers heard about the upgrading of MAPOLY to MAUSTECH, student moving to Ipokia and all sorts of other things, the drivers moved away.
"Then, we had about 96 buses. Currently, we are having just 30 buses on campus. Can you see how it is affecting us, but, he (Adesanya) said also that most drivers prefer going to Oluwo instead of Panseke because they need to wait for the traffic lights and make u-turn.
"After my discussion with him, he assured us that they will take the necessary steps by telling some drivers to move down to Panseke. Some will be at Oluwo, others Fowobi. I believe students will see Changes."
While frowning at reports of theft and extortion at points of boarding busses, he maintained that people who are not students use the rowdy atmosphere to rob unsuspecting students of their valuables.
He however promised to ensure that on the part of the management all ‘economy’ buses are available to convey students to school.
"I will meet with those in charge, and I will speak with them. I don’t tolerate ingenuine excuses. I want straight answers. I will look into the status of the economy and ask, why is it that three is working out of five? They should have reasons why the buses are not working. After meeting with them I will get back to you."
