In a bid of curbing the alarming unemployment rate among graduates in the nation, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta Muslim Alumna (MAPAMA) on her part has organized a career seminar for the students of the institution for better preparation for labor market.
The seminar which was tagged " Boost your job and career profile: Career and graduate employability for students of the institution" was held at the Ramotu Babalakin auditorium in the Polytechnic yesterday.
Speaking as the guest speaker, Mr Toyin Okanlawon a human resource person explained the major rudiments and prerequites skills needed from graduates which their employers are looking for in them for employment.
While sharing his experience as human resources personnel, Mr Okanlawon highlighted that attitudes, skills and knowledge are the three basic criteria which graduates must possessed before they can be employable.
In his words, the labor market do assume that everybody that presents himself for employment is well prepared as they care less on how well you prepared.
According to him, job seekers’ presentations matter a lot when seeking for interview with the high degree of technical competence of them applying the principles they learnt at school and the communication skills.
Speaking on the need for the seminar, the chairman for MAPAMA education foundation board, Mr Rasaq Musbaudeen disclosed that Alumna body has observed the need to fill the unemployment vacuum among graduates which is now a time bomb.
" We decided to start from the school for students to be trained on employability and required skills they needed for employment " he said.
Stressing further, he urges students to maximize the seminar benefits they learnt by implementing whatever goals they have planned from the seminar.
Among the prominent personalities that were in attendance are the director of school of communication and information technology, Dr. Goke Raufu and also Arc (Dr) Adekoyejo jolaosho from the Architecture department.
