The National Association of Nigerian students, Ogun state axis has reiterated its commitment in ensuring that Students’ Union is restored in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic.
The assurance was made by the Association’s Director of Media and Publicity, Comrade Olasunkanmi Akinlotan while speaking with some executives of Press Club at the NUJ secretariat, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.
He said the association has been working tirelessly, and making several consultations to ensure that the emergence of students’ union in the school does not remain a mirage.
It would be noted that the Polytechnic would be having its election on Friday May 18, with over 20 contestants for respective positions.
Akinlotan, who disclosed that the NANS has set up a monitoring committee, assured that the election would be free and fair and the winners would be inaugurated,
His words, “At the level of NANS we have something that is called ‘SUEMT’, which is Students’ Union Election Monitoring Team; they are monitoring bodies for elections in our schools. In Ogun state, affirmatively we have 13 schools under our leadership where ever they are having SUG election we will send SUEMT to the place to ensure fairness in whatever will happen there.
“Because we have had cases where Students’ Union candidates, especially those who lost in some elections make allegations that the management actually wanted the person who won to win; so to prevent injustice on the part of anybody to our students we have organized that committee headed by the Director of Special Duties of NANS to lead the delegates to the place.
“We are not unaware of the coming election in MAPOLY. I can tell you categorically that I personally will be present in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic with the members of SUEMT.
“Be rest assured that justice will be done on Wednesday. The full entourage of NANS will be monitoring the elections because we want the Students’ Union government in MAPOLY to be restored.”
