MAPSU frowns over allegation of extortion in Mass Comm

The students Union of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic has reacted to a petition which has filtered the social media about alleged extortion of students in Mass Communication department.
The students Union in a Press Release signed by the union’s President, Comrade Owoiya AbdulRasaq called for the investigation of the allegation, stressing that it would not “sweep it under the carpet”
The Union passed a note of warning on the management of the department, reminding it that it was illegal to compel students to buy textbooks
The statement reads in part, “On recipient of this letter which is capable of drawing the name of the institution to the mud, the President of the Students’ Union Comrade Owoiya AbdulRasaq has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter as there are 3 Cs in which must be adequately expended in the Aluta struggle.
“It is however important to note that the present Students’ Union Government executives of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, under the leadership of Comrade Owoiya AbdulRasaq frown against any form of extorting or act that is capable of reducing the benefits which is supposed to be enjoyed by our students during their stay on Campus”.
Recall that the petition alleged that the ND 2 students of the department do not recognize a particular lecturer in charge of Use of English, despite not teaching them showed up to advertise textbook.
The petitioners went further to list the names of lecturers who allegedly forced students to buy textbooks and another who disallowed his students from writing test for not buying textbook.
The Students’ Union decried the act as “illegal and disheartening”
The statement reads further, “Compelling our students to buy textbooks or handout is against the law of this great citadel of learning, and nobody is above the law.
“It is disheartening for a student who had spent over two months in Higher Institution not to identify the lecturer in charge of a particular course; this according to the petition was due to the negligence of the lecturer and the department.”
The Students’ Union pledged that it “will not rest on her shore until justice is prevailed on the aggrieved students as this is against the law of our great citadel of learning.”
