During the budget defense of the Students Union government of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic on Friday, some members of the Student Representative council lamented to the SU President, Comrade Owoiya Razak over lack of monetary compensation.

The SU President, alongside three other members of the executive was at the SRC chamber to defend an estimated budget of N5.2m, which includes N1.14m for Social week, N250,000 for sports development, N220,000 for the office of the General Secretary, among others.

While defending the budget, Owoiya explained that the union proposed to generate the money through collection of SU dues at the rate of seven hundred naira from five thousand students of the institution.

However, in the course of the defense, some aggrieved representatives who include honourable Shaffy, Jerry and Femi raised eyebrows over some figures in the budget, while also lamenting that the budget did not make provision for representatives of previous sessions, as well as the SUELECO committee.

When the SU President confirmed that those who work with the students union executive as committee members would get a payoff of N5,000 each, the SRC members quickly objected saying, “we have been sitting here for months without getting a dime.”

While the Speaker, Durodola Folorunshayo tried to calm the members who had turned rowdy, they maintained that the SU President must explain why members of the SRC and the Students Union Electoral Committee (SUELECO) was not considered for remuneration in the budget.

Honorable Femi asked the SU President, “if members of SUELECO did not do their job well, will you be here? Let’s be considerate in what we are doing please.”

“We have been sitting here on behalf of students for over six months, but we have not gotten anything. Anytime we aske Mr. Speaker, he has no answer for us.” Honorable Shaffy wailed.

Meanwhile, the SU President promised to meet with the Director of Students Affairs on the matter and get back to the honorable members through the Speaker

The speaker however promised the students’ representative will scrutinize the budget before passing it, adding that whatever they do will be in the interest of the students they are representing.

He said, “Before we pass this budget, the house will need to sit down and agree on what should be removed and added to it in the interest of student of MAPOLY”.
