The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic has announced the dissolution of the 2023/2024 Students’ Union Government executives, under the leadership of Prosper Oladele, known as Chemical, over tenure expiration.
This announcement was made through a press release by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, a few hours after Chemical demanded the removal of the new Rector, Dr. Babatunde Jolaoso.
According to the statement, the decision was made on Tuesday after an emergency meeting by the management.
The statement stressed that the executives were dissolved on the grounds of running an expired tenure, adding that they had no right to be “parading” as one.
It read: “The dissolution was as a result of the expiration of their tenure by effluxion of time, being currently in the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic session.
“Consequently, the 2023/2024 Union Executives are hereby dissolved.”
The management therefore asked the executives to stop “parading themselves as Students’ Union Executives of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.”

Upon hearing the news, students of MAPOLY have kicked against and criticized the institution’s management over the sudden dissolution of the school’s SUG executives.
The dissolution, which came as a result of fighting for students’ rights, shocked many students, leaving them with unanswered questions about the management’s prioritization of students’ welfare.
Students’ WhatsApp groups, including the SUG group and the Office of the Students’ Union President, have been bustling since the announcement.
“Let’s have it. Students are demanding justice and equality, amongst others, and all the school’s management could do is dissolve the body representing the students to fight for the students’ populace. Misplaced priorities!!!💔🤦🏾♂️,” said a frustrated student of the institution.
Another student said, “This school has turned into something else. Does the Rector want to start dictating for students or what?”
Students have therefore called on the management to provide possible solutions to solve the issue rather than acting “autocratic.”

In a provocative response to the announcement of the dissolution of his executives, Chemical has told Dr. Jolaoso that he has bitten more than he can chew.
In a statement on Tuesday evening, Chemical expressed his “profound dissatisfaction with the tyrannical and dictatorial tendencies exhibited by the newly appointed Rector, Dr. Adekoyejo Jolaoso.”
Making claims against the Rector, he said, “It has come to our attention that the Rector is attempting to tarnish the reputation of the Ogun State Government, ably led by His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun (CON), by making unfounded claims about financing staff salaries with his personal funds instead of revenue generated by the institution.”
He added that “such assertions not only undermine the credibility of the state government but also question the integrity of his leadership. This act of self-glorification further highlights his lack of administrative wisdom and his failure to manage the affairs of the institution in a transparent and inclusive manner.”
“It is crucial to note that the purported dissolution of the Chemical-led Students’ Union is both illegal and unacceptable to the Students’ Populace as it contravenes the tenets of democracy and student representation.”
“On this premise, we hereby reaffirm that the Chemical-led Students’ Union remains the legitimate body representing the interests of all MAPOLY students, and any attempt to dissolve or interfere with its operations without a proper and transparent election process will be met with strong resistance.”
He therefore urged “all students to remain united and steadfast in the face of these challenges, as we stand firm and refuse to waver in our commitment to ensuring that our rights and interests are protected.”
