After PCM Report, DSA Suspends Two, Inaugurates Seven SUELECO Candidates

…DSA hints on new date for SUG election

The Director of Students’ Affairs, David Aninkan has suspended two Students’ Union Electoral Commitee, SUELECO candidates, Emmanuel Michael, Mass Communication, and Ogundoye Mathew, Urban and Regional Planning, for being “unqualified”.

This suspension came few hours after Press Club MAPOLY’s report on the lack of transparency in the just concluded SUELECO screening process.

As a result, the students were suspended on the basis of not meeting the requirements set by the SUELECO screening committee.

The DSA said, “the issue will be investigated and a decision will be made.”

However, seven others, out of the remaining eight, were inaugurated today, with the last person not being physically present.

The inauguration, anchored by the school Councillor, Mr Folorunsho Olugbenga, was graced by the Students’ Affair Officer, Alh. Idris Akinboade, Barr. Razaq Olayinka and Subdean, Arch. Solanke.

Speaking at the event, the DSA charged the inaugurated candidates to never get involved in politics and make sure all elections are free and fair.

He also warned that if any of them is found in affiliation with any irregularities, they will face disciplinary actions, adding that everything would now be monitored.

Therefore, the candidates were sworn-in by Barr Olayinka, as he led them in taking their oath of office.

…DSA hints on new date for SUG election

In the same vein, the DSA has said that the new date for the SUG election is February 28, 2025.

Although, he said the calendar is still tentative, he assured students that all elections will hold and be concluded in the month of February.

Giving details of the tentative calendar, he said after the inauguration of SUELECO, election of new Students’ Representative Council, SRC will hold on the 13th of February while their inauguration will hold on 14th February, 2025.

Also, he said the screening of Students’ Executive Council, SUEC aspirants will hold on Monday, 17th February, 2025.

However, he urged the SUELECO to give adequate information about the process before the due date to foster adequate participation.

He added that scrutinization of SUEC candidate by security agencies, latest 24th, February 2025 by the Department of Security Service.

In the same vein, the SUEC election will hold on the 27th of February while the inauguration will hold on the 28th of February.

He therefore urged the sworn-in members to work diligently and make sure all elections are free and fair.
