….alumni, students give kudos to mgt, demand quick release of results

Throughout his first session in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Abeokuta, Ogun state, which included the first and second semester as an ND 1 student, Gbadamosi Opeyemi always had to stay under the sun for over 5hrs, in a long queue before he could get his examination pass.
“As if that’s not enough, I would still have to go and sign the pass at my Head of Department, HOD’s office before it becomes valid,” Opeyemi said, adding that “the stress was always too much”.
While some students had to endure the pain of staying in a very long queue of over 200 persons, some couldn’t endure the pain, as many fainted during the process.
MAPOLY, especially while approaching the examination period, was always boiling and rough, with students having to wait from the morning, as early as 4 am, till evening, as late as 5 pm, before getting their examination passes.
Many students don’t make it, as they would be told to come back the next day, even after waiting under the sun for over 5hrs.
This is according to an alumni of the Institution, Agah Bartholomew, who narrated how the process was while he was in school.
“During my own time, it was very difficult, because during my ND, some will faint, some will miss class for up to two weeks before they could.
“Some students will go to school around 4 am, or 3 am because of exam pass, and at times they will go, and won’t get the exam pass on that day, it might reach up to three to four days before they could get it,” he said, adding that “some students will faint under the rain and sun because of exam pass.”
Abdulrahmon Abubakir, an outgone student of the institution confirmed Bartholomew’s claims, stressing that students had to “always stay on a long queue under a hot scorching sun looking to get their exam pass.”
He mentioned that many students miss their examinations because they couldn’t get their passes in time, due to lack of easy access to it.

However, the management, who has seen the distress of students while trying to obtain exam passes, provided an easy way for students to obtain their passes.
According to Basirat Adeyemo, a student of the institution, immediately after paying her school and sundry fees, she filled out her course form and printed her exam pass.
Adeyemo expressed delight as she said the development was a stress-free one for her.
With this development, both alumni and students of the Institution have given kudos to the school management as they expressed their joy towards it.
However, the troubling issue of delayed results which had led to students having extra-year, according to sources, is still bothering them.
Commending the management, Opeyemi said it was a great development as students would be able to get their passes without stress.
According to him, some of his friends fainted during the process of queuing before they collected their exam passes from the school administration office.
Therefore, he asked the management to keep utilizing technology, especially in the aspect of quick release of results.
“I have been expecting this improvement because the stress and complaints are too much, even the staff members are facing a lot of problems, and I know they’re looking for a way to solve it.
“I would like to commend the school authority, also, I’ll advise them to work on releasing results in a very short period.
“It is very bad for us to wait for too long before seeing our results and we have to let them know,” he said.
An alumni of the Institution, Abdulwahab Hussein stressed how ‘chaotic’ the period of getting exam passes was during his time.
He said that despite being cashless as a student, he had to come to school every day for a week, spending heavily on transport, just to get his exam pass.
However, he commended the management for the new initiative.
Also, he brought to the notice of the management the issue of not holding convocation for students after so many years, urging them to work on it.
Corroborating this statement, Babatunde Michael, also an alumni said MAPOLY has not held a convocation for the past seven years, despite mandating its fee.
Even though he commended the management for the Electronic Printed Pass achievement, he expressed disappointment at the way the management handled the issue of delayed results and convocation.
Abdulkabir also said it’s commendable with this new system, adding that it will make life easy for students and make the process fast as well.
“This will eradicate queues and other negative effects that come from it”, he said.
He therefore advised that the school management embrace more technology platforms for the smooth running of the institution, adding that are now in the era of digital technology.
Also, Morufat Folrunsho, who was a student of the Institution commended the Institution’s management.
According to her, she always had a very challenging and bitter experience whenever she wanted to get an examination pass.
In her words, it shouldn’t cause problems, it should be something that should be issued without giving us problems.
She therefore advised the management to embrace more technology ideas and think outside the box.
“And they should think of how school development will take place, they should be in total acceptance with the student bodies, they have lots of ideas,” she said.

Efforts to speak with the Institution’s Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, were made for him to comment.
However, they were all futile as messages sent to him were unattended for two days.
