The AMACOS Electoral Committee (AMEC) as eaten it words by adjusting the electoral process of the 2019/20 Association of Mass Communication Students (AMACOS) elections.
The committee changed the CGPA requirement for the post of department president from 3.0 to 2.75.
This development has attracted protest from a sect of students but the effort was futile.
The HOD, Amos Kolawole while trying to broker peace urged them to vote in or vote out their choice adding that it is the best way to make their voice count.
The agitation of the said group was to kick against the reduction is CGPA.
They went around bearing placards with inscriptions such as "3.0 CGPA or no elections", "say not to Godfatherism", "we don’t want to be led by dullards", among others
He advised them not to hit up the polity and give the department a bad reputation.
Recall that Press Club MAPOLY had earlier interviewed the AMEC chairman, Felix Idowu who boasted of the committee not making any changes to the earlier rolled out electoral process.
While reasons for the changes could not be ascertained at press time, pressure and independence of the electoral committee are suspected for these changes.
The electoral screening which was earlier scheduled for Tuesday couldn’t hold till Thursday while manifestos scheduled for Wednesday will now take place on Friday morning before the elections.
The election date however remained unchanged as elections are scheduled to start by 10am on Friday.
