The Association of Mass Communication Electoral Commission (AMEC), MAPOLY is not functioning, an aspirant for the post of General Secretary has said.
The aspirant, Sodiq Adeniran Adedeji, based his allegation on the fact that up till press time, the election procedures are yet to commence.
He said, "AMEC is not doing any work. We aspirants are yet to get the requirements to know if we are qualified to contest or not. Hope we are not wasting time? Manifestos are yet to hold, form is yet to be obtained, requirements are yet to be cited."
In his response, AMEC chairman, Azeez Ridwan confirmed that the commission is yet to commence any activity regarding the department election.
Ridwan, however, said that the reason for this is that the commission has not yet consulted the concerned lecturers as well as the present executives.
His words, "The aspirants need to understand that AMEC cannot perform any action without meeting with the lecturers in charge, and before anything about the coming election can be disclosed, I need to choose the officials to work with".
"I would meet with the lecturers in charge and AMACOS executive very soon and whatever is discussed shall be reported to the Press Club".
He reminded all aspirants that most of these procedures get underway during the AMACOS week, pleading with them to give the commission more time.
He further assured that information as regards the election will be out soon.
