The Junior Chambers International, JCI, MAPOLY chapter has refuted allegations linking the organisation to a political sect in the school.
The organisation was accused after a political sect in the school recorded simultaneous victory at the Moruf Popoola Public speaking (MOPPS) competition organised by JCI.
This is coming just as the MAPSU President, Samson Omoniyi, Heritage, congratulated the winner attributing the victory to the political forum he belongs.
Heritage, who served as the chairman of the MOPPS, took to his WhatsApp to congratulate the winner.
In his post, he said "2017/18 JCI Public speaking competition was won by Advocate, Heritage. 2018/19 edition was won by an Advocate, SASAENIYAN. WE ARE QUALITY PERSONNEL FOR EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP".
The content of his post has since generated debates at different quarters as it has been read with a political undertone. Others even faulted the credibility of the competition from the fact that the chairman and the winner are from the same political forum.
But in a swift reaction, JCI President, Onuoha Joseph in a statement said the club is not in support of any political forum as it has been tagged on social media.
"This is to inform the general public and students of this great citadel of learning, that JCI MAPOLY is not in support of any kind of Political Shenanigans that has been tagged across all Social Media Platforms.
"It has come to the notice of the directors that some political forum are already tagging the just concluded Moruf Popoola Public Speaking Competition as an edge to win political post.
"It’s on this note JCI MAPOLY stand against and debunk any form of Political Shenanigans, and if any forum is found blackmailing the organization it will not be taken with Levity.
"We believe Government should be of law rather than of man.
Speaking on the qualification of the MAPSU president as chairman of the competition, Joseph said, " he was the last year winner and the winner for the year automatically chairs the committee for the next year. "
He also debunked the claim that the winner is a member of JCI.
When contacted, MAPSU President, Heritage made no comment on the development.
