If you were to take a look at what was obtainable before the current decade and place it in contrast to what is obtainable in the present decade, you would come to reckon with the fact that things have taken a turn for the better in the security sector of the polytechnic.
Obviously, nothing thrives where there is no security. The offshoot of insecurity is never development nor progress, but on the flip side, conflict, underdevelopment and retrogression. That speaks volumes and tells loudly of the import of security in the society.
And when that context is zoomed into a place like an educational institution, the imperative becomes double in the light of the fact that such environment wields in significant number the supposed leaders of the country’s flight in the future.
It is being said that the moment you compromise the growth and security of the youth, then its ripple effects come trickling down to not only the whole country but the posterity of the whole country. In other words, the society gets to suffer in the now, and gets to suffer on a long-term.
Bringing this home, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, some ten, fifteen years ago, had an infamous narrative fueled by a history of hooliganism, cultism and what have you. It battled with these anomalies for a period of time with successive administrations pulling their weights to see the school rid of these security clogs. It lingered and lingered until early in the present decade where the school was seen exuding a breath of fresh air as regards security within its territory.
And today, the story is one very encouraging as the school is arguably one of the most peaceful within the state.
How the school authority has been able to combat the security challenges that had bedeviled the school in the past such that the school is now a haven that allows for educational prosperity and technological advancement is one worth beaming the light on, and celebrating.
These days, students are now confident to amble around the school with no fear of anyone harassing or bullying them. Gone are the days where we hear tales from students of how they were accosted by guys and coerced to team up with gangs beyond their wish. All these have now become history in the school as students are seen going about their educational and auxiliary pursuits in bravado bearing sterling results in return.
And of late, despite internal systemic challenges that had threatened the school in recent years; the school, enabled by a peaceful and security-tight environment, has had a litany of record-breaks with students – both ex-students and existential students – excelling both in school and outside school, plus the school recording an increase in its population of students interested to come study in it. This goes a long way to tell you that the image of the school is exponentially getting to that glory state of the days of Ogun State Polytechnic, and much credit has to go to the recent administrations who have contributed to this mileage, and of course, the current administration led by the Acting Rector, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji.
While this is a deserved recognition and celebration of the management of the school in its efforts to jet the school to unprecedented heights, we must as well emphasize the need for it not to rest on its oars, and ensure that the current security bliss the school enjoys, aside from it getting perpetuated, should equally get optimized. In other words, look at areas where work still needs to be done and effect the necessary upgrade therein.
With constant reforms and upgrade on security matters, it will definitely consolidate on the security haven the school boasts of, one that has made it one of the most peaceful schools in Ogun state.
