Fawaz Adebisi of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) emerged as the impressive 1st Runner-Up at the 2025 Alfred Opubor Campus Journalism Awards held at the Abuja Continental Hotel, organized by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), the event celebrates excellence in campus journalism across Nigeria.
The overall winner was Shereefdeen Sawe from Uthman Danfodio University, Sokoto (UDUS), while Taiwo Fatola of Osun State University (UniOsun) took the 2nd Runner-Up position.
The award ceremony also recognized contributions from the late Alfred Opubor, former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at Uthman Danfodio University, Sokoto (UDUS), a pioneering journalist whose legacy continues to inspire investigative journalists across Nigeria.
Adebisi’s award-winning investigative report, “We Just Want Dignity,” sheds light on the plight of over 3,000 leprosy patients and their families living in neglected colonies across Nigeria.
Speaking at the ceremony, he said, “I feel so excited, the fact that I am opportuned to project MAPOLY and trying to fight the stereotype among the BSC and HND, inspire others and tell them that they can do better is what makes me feel so joyous.”
He then dedicated his achievement to his late mother, father, Press Club MAPOLY, mentors, friends, and colleagues for their unwavering support.”
His work highlights the urgent need for healthcare improvements and social support to restore dignity to these marginalized communities.
This recognition not only celebrates Adebisi’s talent but also amplifies the critical issues facing vulnerable populations in Nigeria, inspiring others in the media to continue advocating for justice and reform.
