Students of the Nutrition and Dietetics (NUD) Department at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) are grappling with hygiene challenges following the absence of adequate and functional toilet facilities within the department.
The President of the department, Christopher Frank, revealed this in an interview, identifying poor access to hygienic toilet facilities as the department’s most pressing challenge.
He cautioned that the situation poses serious risks to students’ wellbeing and could undermine their productivity as well as academic performance.
According to Frank, the challenge is particularly alarming given the nature of the department’s activities, which involve food preparation and nutrition-related practicals that require a high level of cleanliness and sanitation.
“As a department that deals directly with food, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment is non-negotiable,” he said
He further noted that the lack of functional toilets compromises practical training and threatens professional standards.
He called on the relevant authorities to urgently intervene by providing functional and hygienic toilet facilities, stressing that such action is necessary to ensure a safe learning environment, protect students’ health, and support effective teaching and learning.
Frank expressed hope that swift steps would be taken to address the issue, adding that a clean and supportive environment is essential for practical exercises and for sustaining the standards of excellence expected in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics.
