To promise is of human, to fulfill is of human conscience. In every human society, the social network has a tint of untrue promise or promises, and this has a great effect on development.
Take for instance, on one of those campaigning scenarios one witnessed a politician dishing out mouth-watering promises to replenish fading hope of the people, unknown to them that all was but a daydream albeit those promises are achievable. Elders would say, two people don’t benefit from lies; if the person that’s been deceive doesn’t know, the deceiver actually knows.
The punch democracy is dealt with by unfulfilled promises results to dearth of growth as well as sabotage to its dividends. It caused the society to be sinking on the verge of under-development and changes and also makes it vulnerable to all kinds of menace.
Thus, it is visible that this vice of unfulfilled electoral promises can be traced to the Students Union President. Recall the electoral promises made during the campaign and notably the debate session. The SU President promised "Digital MAPOLY", remember?
Mr. SUG President, what stage is the development of the digital MAPOLY promised? The procedures rolled out for the payment of the SUG due has no bit of digitalization in it. Or digital MAPOLY means that "You will obtain teller from the Students’ Union Chamber", "Pay at MAPOLY microfinance bank", and "then, bring the teller back to obtain the receipt at the chamber". Is that what you meant by "digital"?
Sir Babs, how far? Shall we continue with manual method of payment and all that? If the SUG due cannot be transacted electronically, how is the whole polytechnic —26 departments— going to have the smell of digital MAPOLY?
Despite the fact that we are in the digital age, Nigeria operates in manual method. It appears that the SUG President is also toiling the trail already.
Students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic decry carrying of files –like the almajiri child carries bowl for begging – from one administrative office to another. Mr. SUG President came, promised "change", and until now, there’s nothing to show. We are lied to!
Sir Babs, it is better to re-strategize and fulfill your electoral promises for the students populace are closely watching. Your cabinet too, promised all-inclusive governance, has that been taking place?
Mr. SU President, promises of plans bereft of methodology to marshal the plans to success is eating into your cabinet, watch out!
