The Library and Information Science Students Association (LISSA), Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), has formally petitioned the institution’s management over what it described as unconstitutional actions, intimidation and threats by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC).
This was gathered in a statement by the President, Comr. Oladoyinbo Solomon the association rejected claims by the SRC that it possesses the authority to suspend or remove the departmental president.
LISSA maintained that the SRC lacks lawful jurisdiction over its leadership, arguing that the departmental association is not a member of the union structure from which the SRC derives its powers.
The statement stressed that the mandate of the LISSA president emanates solely from students of the Library and Information Science Department.
The association accused the SRC of overstepping constitutional boundaries and engaging in what it termed “grandstanding statements and theatrical communiqués” instead of adhering to due process. It urged the council to revisit its constitution and operate within defined limits of authority.
Addressing allegations relating to financial impropriety, LISSA categorically denied any wrongdoing.
The association explained that the Library and Information Science Department is newly established and does not yet operate an official departmental bank account. It noted that steps are being taken by the executive to open a departmental account with a reputable commercial bank in line with institutional guidelines.
LISSA further described claims of financial misconduct as false, misleading and intended to tarnish reputations.
The association reaffirmed that its executive members were duly elected and remain accountable only to departmental students through lawful mechanisms.
The statement warned that any further attempt to harass or unlawfully interfere with the departmental leadership would be treated seriously.
LISSA disclosed that copies of its petition would be submitted to the Rector through the Dean of Student Affairs, with additional correspondence forwarded to appropriate security agencies if necessary.
