The National Association of Nigerian students (NANS), Ogun state axis, has urged students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) to desist from any act of violence over purported issue surrounding the conversion of MAPOLY to University, which has led to the postponement of Second semester examination.
In a press release jointly signed by the NANS Chairman Ogun state Axis, Comrade Olawale Balogun and his General Secretary, Comrade Amuwa Mayowa, on behalf of the Students Association, the union also appealed to students to be law-abiding, promising that the issue would be resolved soon.
Part of the release read thus, "the leadership of NANS Ogun state admonishes all students of the polytechnic MAPOLY) to desist from taking any drastic and unplanned steps which would later be a fault and digression on the part of we students.
It would be recalled that the second semester examination which has been scheduled for 18th September 2017, was reportedly postponed indefinitely by the staff of the institution over the failure of the government to reply letters sent by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, ASUP.
NANS also assured MAPOLY students that, the association is currently on the issue, saying we promise all students of the polytechnic to earnestly find a durable solution to all issues revolving round the stay of students on campus.
The students’ body however advised, the Ogun state government, ASUP MAPOLY, and the Technical Transition Committee led by Prof. Peter Okebukola to make use of necessary and available means to resolve all issues before it becomes uncontrollable.
The release further read, "We urge all students to remain law abiding and swallow any unprofitable plan that won’t serve as a panacea but as a more devastating one”.
