The National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) arrived at Ipokia, Ogun state to inspect the facilities on the construction site of the new Ogun State Polytechnic on Monday.
The board, after its inspection, expressed satisfaction over the acceleration of work on the site and also pledged technical support for the new polytechnic and the state government.
The Chairman of the board, Eng. Nuru Yakubu, who led other NBTE officials to the takeoff site said, "We would do our very best when we return to Kaduna Tomorrow to meet and interact with the team so that we can advise on the best possible ways for His Excellency and the people of Ogun state to actualize this very noble Accepted Ogun state polytechnic.”
Also, the Ogun state government has pledged its commitment to the actualization of the new state polytechnic.
The Deputy Governor, Chief Mrs Yetunde Onanuga was on ground to receive officials of NBTE on behalf of the state.
Speaking on behalf of the Government, Onanuga promised that the state government would ensure that both human and material resources are made available for the commencement of the state polytechnic in Ipokia.
In her words," We want to assure the good people of Ipokia and the entire people of Ogun state that we are ready to takeoff the Ogun state polytechnic.
“This is an assurance as you can see that the National Board Technical team are here to
witness the development."
Meanwhile the fate of thousands of students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, as well as their lecturers remains undecided as the status quo persists.
It would be recalled that the establishment of the new Ogun state Polytechnic in Ipokia and simultaneously, the conversion of MAPOLY to a University resulted in a disagreement between the Academic Staff Union of the institution and the government.
Academic activities in MAPOLY have suffered setbacks since the government revealed its intention to employ new staff for the proposed university and transfer the existing staff to the yet to be concluded and unaccredited Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia.
The Academic staff union of Polytechnics, MAPOLY chapter has refused to resume work despite the suspension of the union’s nation-wide strike on Wednesday November 29
