The Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) as part of efforts to drive institutional growth and equip engineering students with industry-relevant skills.
This development emerged on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by a GIZ delegation to the Polytechnic, where discussions were held with the Management at the Rector’s Office.
Speaking on the purpose of the visit, the GIZ Team Lead, Ms. Rachel Schipper, explained that the delegation was at MAPOLY to assess the institution’s readiness for the implementation of Competency-Based Training (CBT) and to identify areas of alignment with existing academic programmes.
The delegation comprised the Head of Component, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Engr. Josiah Adanu; Senior Skills Advisor on TVET from Abuja, Chief Stephen Agwu; and the Senior Skills Advisor and State Coordinator, GIZ, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu.
In his remarks, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Arc. Dr. ’Koye Jolaoso, expressed MAPOLY’s willingness to deepen its partnership with GIZ in advancing human capital development and strengthening technical education.
He noted that the institution was ready to cooperate fully with GIZ to achieve shared goals aimed at enhancing skills acquisition and promoting sustainable development.
After the meeting, the Director of the Centre for Skill Development, Engr. Dr. Ahmed Olanrewaju Apampa, conducted the GIZ team on an inspection tour of facilities at the School of Engineering.
Furthermore, the tour covered the Mechanical Engineering and Electrical/Electronics Engineering laboratories, refrigeration and air-conditioning laboratory, machine workshop, welding and fabrication workshop, as well as various student projects, including a coconut puller.
The GIZ delegation expressed optimism about developing structured projects with clearly defined learning objectives for each phase of training, with programme delivery expected to commence in February 2026.
Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Rector, Dr. Mrs. Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda; the Acting Registrar, Mr. Funsho Kusimo; and other members of staff, who warmly received the visiting delegation.
