The new executives of the Association of Mass Communication Students, AMACOS have been advised to steer clear of corrupt practices now that the management of the polytechnic has zero tolerance for corruption.
This warning was said at the swearing-in and oath-taking ceremony held for the newly elected students’ leaders of the department at the office of the Head of Department.
Those sworn-in are Moses Ayodele, President; Ayomide Shomoye, Vice-President 1; Happiness Okuagbo, Vice President 2; Helen George, General Secretary; Fatai Adefala, Assistant General Secretary; Sheriff Kosoko, Public Relations Officer; Victor Odelabi, Deputy Public Relations Officer; Blessing Agbeetan, Treasurer.
Others include Ayorinde Omokemi, Financial Secretary; Fidelix Esechie, Social Director; Oluwatobi Kehinde, Sports Director; Azeez Akinbowale, Librarian; David Asadeji, Deputy Librarian and Afusat Ibrahim, Welfare Director.
The HoD, Kolawole Amos also advised the executives to always have the students of the department at heart in all their activities.
Amos who said he is aware that the department is facing challenges presently, he urged the Ayodele-led executives to devise means of surmounting these challenges.
“I congratulate you on your success. You have found yourselves in positions of authority which must not be abused. You are not to see yourselves as super lords. It is a call to serve our people. Whatever marks you are to make must be in line with what the students need. ask yourselves what legacies will people know about me when I’m gone? Will history be kind to me? Am I going to be discredited out of office?
“It is pathetic to see students come to office with the sole aim of making money. If anyone tries that, I will ensure such student is expelled. If you do anything fraudulent in anyway, the fellow will be expelled.
“When you lose credibility, you have lost your soul. Let your watchword ne integrity, sincerity and faithfulness. Let your goals and desires be in the interests of our students. Your drive should be students-based.
“This is not a challenge that gives you money, if that is what you have in mind, please change it. Unfortunately, there is no money with the current number of students we have. So, think of good projects to be executed with little amounts that would help the students.
“I know we have challenges in the department and we now have very big halls that need functional public address systems. I urge you to start well and end well. Our students should always be the first,” Amos said.
The Legal Adviser of the association, Barrister Yinka Razaq who swore the executives in charged them to uphold the ethics of their profession as watchdogs of the society.
“The amendment of the SUG constitution is still on-going. We are trying to create stiffer measures to get rid of corruption. I am sure you know what happened two years ago. If you are found guilty, you will refund the money and you will be expelled for stealing the money that belongs to everybody.
“Professionally, you are the fourth estate of the realm. And as a watchdog, you shouldn’t be found wanting. Seize this opportunity to make names for yourselves. The institution has zero tolerance for corruption.”
