The much awaited radio station of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta is set to hit the airwaves in November as an alumnus of the institution, Otunba Gbolahan MacJob donated N1.5m worth of equipment to set up the radio.
MacJob who is an ace broadcaster with BBC donated the equipment to the radio on Friday to aid efficient transmission.
Press Club MAPOLY gathered that the ace broadcaster who is a graduate of Mass Communication of the Polytechnic has been running the online version of the Radio on www.mapolyradio since August from the United Kingdom where he works as a Correspondent for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
PCM also learnt that MAPOLY Radio had been licensed by the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) since 2015 to operate on 99.7 frequency modulation.
While presenting the equipment to the Polytechnic on Friday, Macjob said his intention was to payback to the source of his fortune as a journalist and lay credence for the successors in the great citadel of learning.
He stated that the donation of the multi media equipment will expose the students to new trends in the broadcast industry.
"You cannot study broadcasting in this age, without having a practical knowledge, so the equipment became necessary to expose the students to new trend in broadcast industry.
"We want to make sure that MAPOLY Students are the best in the broadcast industry because charlatans are taking over the industry. We have the best grooming in MAPOLY Mass Communication despite the little resources.
"MAPOLY has always been the best training ground for journalists in Nigeria and we must build on that momentum" he said
Receiving the equipments, the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji appreciated Macjob for the kind gesture disclosing that full operation of the Radio station will begin in November.
Odedeji also lauded the alumnus for donating the ultra modern equipment adding that he has written his name on a platter of gold.
He therefore charged other well-meaning alumni of the institution to emulate Macjob as a model.
Also at the event were the institution’s bursar, Abdul Fatai Yekinni, Head MAPOLY Radio, Dr. Kunle Oluwusi, Sub-Dean, School of Communication and information technology, Bar. Yinka Razaq, Acting Head of Mass Communication, Dr. Wasiu Tejuoso, Head broadcasting, Mass Communication department, Dr. Shola Adeosun.
Equipments donated includes a multimedia mixing console, microphones and stands, headphones and a laptop for online transmission.
