The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Dr.Adeoye Odedeji has advised the students to do away with all forms of anti-social behavior stating how the school suspended 60 students and expelled 30 over examination misconduct.
The Rector of the institution, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji, disclosed this on Thursday, during the 2022/2023 Matriculation and Oath-Taking Ceremony at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Hall.
Odedeji stated that the management of the polytechnic frowned at any anti-social behaviors, examination misconduct, indecent dressing, secret associations, and others, which he said the students have been sworn against.
He said, “Your primary aim on this campus is to obtain a certificate which will help you achieve in life.
“Be informed that the management frowns at some anti-social behaviors, examination misconduct, indecent dressing, secret associations which you have sworn against today.
” The Polytechnic recently expelled 30 students and suspended another 60 students for examination misconduct”.
In the same vein, Odedeji said students are not allowed to enter the school premises with cars that have tinted glasses, and he also warned them about their use of commercial motorcycles.
He said, “Some people have a penchant for tinted vehicles. But for the security of our staff and students, they are not allowed to have access to our campus.
“We have also made efforts to register the motorcycle operators at the gate to ensure those that carry our students are known to us.
“I will only advise you not to take motorcycles on a long distance if you must take it at all.
“As fresh students, know those who you associate with. Refuse any unsolicited assistance from any quarter. Run away from what is capable of dragging the name of the Institution and your families to the mud.
“Rather, invest your energy in positive and productive works that will write your name in gold.”
Odedeji, who boasted that the polytechnic has over 100 lecturers with Ph. D.s, charged the matriculating students to take advantage of the facilities available for their educational attainment.
He, however, gave the reason as to why matriculation has been a virtual one for the past few years. He attributed it to the presence of Covid 19 in the country adding that the school is taking precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.
He said the reason is all connected with the pandemic. While some people feel it is over but it is not over. People feel once they have taken the vaccine, they have become completely immune to the disease which is not so, one has to take precautions as prevention is better than cure."
"We have encouraged our students to get the vaccine but one can’t be sure the majority of them are vaccinated due to one reasons or the other. We don’t assume that everybody has taken it and if there is a way of curtailing it, I think that is better.
He added that the tradition will continue as long as Covid 19 is still prevalent.
" Since we have not found an absolute cure to it and many people die as a result of it, we must do everything to prevent it. He said.
