The Rector, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji expressed gratitude to the Campus Reporter and Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), at the four-day journalism training organized for students of the institution.
Recall that PRESS CLUB MAPOLY reported that Campus Reporter trained 50 Mass Communication students on the nitty-gritty of good journalism and its approach.
Speaking at the training, Dr. Odedeji noted that the purpose of journalism is to solve societal problems while emphasizing the power of communication in promoting understanding, stability, and progress within any community.
He also encouraged the participants to make good use of the knowledge gained from the training to push for positive changes, reminding them that the success of the training would be measured by the number of problems they solved through their writing.
He said, “I want to congratulate you for having the rare privilege of having access to information, techniques, skills, and competence to be able to create the environment that you also are beneficiaries, whatever change you birth through your journalism, is not only meant for some people somewhere, you are equally a beneficiary of that good or progress that you have created through your write-up.
“And I want you not to allow this to die at this venue, The importance, the relevance, usefulness of this training is the aftereffect, so that by the time you graduate you will be counting the number of issues that you have resolved through your writings and that will be your testimonials, but this can only be achieved through hard work, consistency, focus.”
He further urged the students not to be distracted by social media but rather put it to advantageous use.
He stated, “Don’t allow yourself to be distracted by social media, it diverts a lot, but it is also a tool to promote the knowledge, understanding, skill, and competence that you have acquired in this training.”
However, the Rector on behalf of the institution appreciated the organizers and facilitators of the training for the great opportunity.
“So, on behalf of the governing council, management, staff, and students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, I want to express our heartfelt appreciation for this opportunity that has come to us with no contribution.”
