The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji has disclosed the date to launch the newly built skill acquisition center in the polytechnic, stating that it would be open in the next two weeks.
The Rector disclosed this on Saturday, during the celebration of World Teachers’ Day at Babalakin Hall, MAPOLY, Abeokuta, which was organized by the Association of Mass Communication Students,1994 set.
The event had in attendance the Rector of the school; Dr. Adeoye David Odedeji, Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy; Waheed Odushile, Rev.Adesina Egunjo, AMACOS H.O.D; Dr. Lekan Togunwa amongst others.
According to the Rector, the total amount of money spent on the construction of the building is ₦255m.
Speaking of the benefits of the Skill acquisition center, Dr. Adeoye said that it will add a lot of technical skills to students, and equally help to reduce the rates of unemployment in the country.
He also said that the purpose of the skill acquisition program is to accommodate students so that there will be enough practical as the school follows the policy of the polytechnic system.
Meanwhile, he said that the service would not be rendered for free because a lot of facilities will be provided in the center and it must be well maintained.
The president of AMACOS 1994 set, Mr. Ladi Arowa while delivering his speech, appreciated the lecturers as he emphasized the reason behind the celebration which was to honor the lecturers for the gift they gave to them.
He added that the event was their way of saying that the "young men and women you molded have become people of repute and have represented you well in diverse fields."
He said, "It has been 28 years since we left this campus just like yesterday, what we have are memories, no matter where else we have been and who we have become our foundation is right here in Ojere".
He also said that their legacy sub-committees have drafted plans to change the face of the department and as well organize a training and mentorship program that would help the final year students fit into jobs and help them secure jobs after graduation.
He, therefore, advised students to be focused and pray for their teachers saying that, "the grass is not greener elsewhere, It’s the same grass, If you’re a failure here you will be a failure in other countries, if you have a terrible attitude to work here it will follow you anywhere you go, work hard while you can, opportunity comes once and you can be a youth just once." He said.
