The students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic have called on the state government to find long-lasting solutions to the deplorable conditions of the road that leads to the school premises and as well pleaded for the accreditation of some of the institution’s programs.
The appeal came after the stakeholders and the Students Representatives Council meeting held on July 14th, 2022 at the Student Union Chamber.
Prior to that, the Transport Union workers of the polytechnic have increased the fee from N50 to N80, giving the poor state of the road as an excuse for the increase.
Therefore, the Student Representative Council of the polytechnic felt the need to appeal to the state government to alleviate the suffering of the students by repairing the road.
The letter states," Your excellency, the road that leads to Moshood Abiola, from Iyana- Oloke to the school gate is an eyesore and an embarrassment to the good people of Ogun state. It is now worse in the rainy season as the axis has been suffering from neglect since 10 years ago".
"This infrastructural deficit is having a devastating effect on students, residents, and the institution as a whole. Apart from being a death trap due to frequent accidents, students and lecturers find it difficult to navigate the route daily."
"There has been a huge reduction in the number of buses and cabs that ply the road. Most students now trek from far distance to school every day. We implore the state government to fix the road now as it is seriously affecting academics, progress, and activities of the institutions in many ways".
Similarly, the Student’s representative body in the letter addressed to tIe Governor of the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, urged to come to the polytechnic’s rescue in the accreditation of some of its courses.
The letter further reads," As students, our lives are at stake. The issue of accreditation can make or mar our sojourn in the citadel of learning. If our courses are not accredited, it would not only render our certificate useless, it also determines our journey in life".
