Weeks after Union bodies of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic shutdown the institution over unresolved issues, there is a possibility that the school resumes session soon as the governor-elect takes over leadership today.
May 29 had become the most anticipated day for MAPOLY students and staffs as governor elect, Dapo Abiodun is set to assume office as the governor of ogun state.
This development many hope, is expected to end the lingering crisis facing the institution ranging from payment of outstanding salaries and indecisions on the commencement of Ogun State Polytechnic and Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology.
Recall that the Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institution (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) MAPOLY had embarked on an indefinite strike on the 29th of April, 2019 after the former governor, Ibikunle Amosun, failed to meet up with their request to pay outstanding salaries amounting to over 600 million.
The two unions jointly shut down the school, suspending all academic and Non Academic activities within the school.
Dapo Abiodun, prior to his inauguration, had assured the Academic Staff Union Mapoly, to consult and sit with respective quarters to help resolve the crisis.
Sources claimed that there had been constant meetings between the governor-elect and some authorities in the institution.
Meanwhile, students have taken to their various social media platforms to congratulate the incoming Governor and bid farewell to the outgoing, as many alleged the latter of contributing to the prolonged academic sessions amidst strikes.
There seems to be a projected twist in fate of the embattled institution as students and staff hope Governor Abiodun’s decisions and tenure would favour the institutions at large.
