…Acknowledges Alumni Support for Growth

After nearly a decade-long break in graduation ceremonies, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY)l, Abeokuta, is set to award National and Higher National Diplomas to over 51,000 graduates during its 15th combined convocation ceremony slated for Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
This historic convocation will cover graduates from nine academic sessions spanning 2015/2016 to 2023/2024, making it the institution’s first convocation since the 2014/2015 academic year.
The Rector, Arc. Dr. ‘Koye Jolaoso, announced the milestone at a pre-convocation press briefing held on Thursday, June 19, at the institution’s Council Chamber.
Describing the upcoming event as symbolic of a “new dawn” at the polytechnic, Dr. Jolaoso emphasized that the convocation signals renewed momentum and transformation across the institution.
“This occasion therefore stands as a major achievement for this administration and indeed a testimony to the renewed spirit of progress within MAPOLY,” he said.
Beyond awarding diplomas, the convocation will also feature the conferment of Honorary Fellowship Awards and Awards of Excellence on distinguished Nigerians for their contributions to education, industry, and national development.
As part of the event lineup, Hon. (Dr.) Abike Dabiri-Erewa, OON, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), will deliver the convocation lecture.
The lecture, titled “Diaspora Perspective and the Influence of STEM in the Globalized World of Today,” will be held at the OGD Auditorium on the same day.
Since assuming office just six months ago, Dr. Jolaoso noted that his administration has embarked on strategic reforms to reposition MAPOLY.
These include restoring confidence among staff and students, improving academic operations, upgrading infrastructure, enhancing industry and alumni engagement, and rebranding the institution’s image.
He said, “the salary backlogs are so enormous. We have been paying up to date but the backlogs are still there and we have been visiting it from April.”
He added that the institution has paid all bank loans completely.
As part of his commitment to building a new MAPOLY, he affirmed that the institution will hold convocation on a regular basis. “We’ll be having regular convocation,” he said.
He extended gratitude to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, and the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Adelaja Arigbabu, for their support, as well as to the Polytechnic’s Governing Council and alumni for their ongoing contributions.
Dr. Jolaoso also assured that convocation ceremonies would now become an annual tradition, reflecting stability in MAPOLY’s academic calendar and reinforcing its commitment to excellence.
“With renewed commitment from all stakeholders, MAPOLY is on a progressive path to regaining its rightful place in Nigeria’s academic landscape,” the Rector affirmed.
