The staff unions of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta have collectively decided to suspend their six-week indefinite strike.
The Chairman of Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) Comrade Adeleye Tajudeen disclosed this to Press Club MAPOLY via his social media handle on Thursday.
The resolution to suspend the strike emerged following a congress held earlier on Thursday morning.
Comrade Adeleye confirmed that the decision was reached after careful consideration and discussions among the union members.
This decision aligns with the recent confirmation made by Comrade Adeleye on Wednesday, regarding the payment of 480 million Naira by the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
The funds played a crucial role in facilitating an agreement to end the strike, providing a positive outcome for both the staff unions and the state government.
“We have congress tomorrow, and we are going to suspend the strike,” Comrade Adeleye had previously mentioned, foreshadowing the optimistic turn of events during the congress.
We recall that on October 4, 2023, the staff unions of the institution, including the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP), and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), declared an indefinite strike in response to the non-payment of three months’ salaries.
The suspension of the strike comes as a relief for the MAPOLY community, signaling the resumption of regular activities at the institution.
This development underscores the importance of effective communication and cooperation between staff unions and governmental authorities in resolving labor disputes within educational institutions.
