The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY),has reaffirmed its commitment to producing self-reliant graduates through its solar-powered block production project at the institution’s Entrepreneurship Centre.
Speaking on the initiative, the Polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Yemi Ajibola, said the project was created to provide students with practical entrepreneurial skills that prepare them for life after graduation, particularly in productive ventures outside the traditional white-collar space.
He explained that students involved in the programme are trained in block production, financial planning, material sourcing, and general business management, enabling them to independently establish similar ventures upon completing their studies.
According to Ajibola, the block industry operates under the supervision of the Entrepreneurship Centre, with students handling daily production activities.
He added that Participants are also provided with startup capital to procure materials such as cement and sand, allowing them to gain firsthand experience in budgeting, cost control, and profit management.
Ajibola noted that the facility stands out for its use of solar-powered vibrating machines, which enhance efficiency while eliminating dependence on diesel generators.
He added that the approach also exposes students to sustainable and environmentally friendly production methods.
The further explained that the project produces an average of 400 blocks daily, with about 40 blocks moulded from a single bag of cement, a standard that ensures strength and quality.
Ajibola further disclosed that proceeds from the venture are reinvested into the Entrepreneurship Centre to support its growth, while the Polytechnic’s management provides continuous oversight to ensure sustainability.
He stressed that the institution’s objective is to graduate students who are not only academically sound but also equipped with practical skills to create employment opportunities.
The initiative has been widely described as a meaningful effort toward strengthening entrepreneurship education and closing the gap between classroom learning and real-world business experience.
