NEW RECTOR: PCM, MAPOLY MSSN Pays Courtesy Visit, Tender Campus Pressing Issues

On Monday, the Press Club Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY and the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, MAPOLY Branch paid the institution’s newly appointed rector, Arc. Dr. Babatunde Jolaoso, a courtesy visit.

The visit, which took place at Jolaoso’s office, had in presence; the Deputy Rector, Mrs Yetunde Lanre-iyanda, the Polytechnic Bursar, Mrs Folasade Madariola Ajewole and the Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi Olubukola.

Representatives from PCM included the club President, Adenrele Michael, Editor, Sodiq Oguntoye, Wale Gbadamosi and Fawaz Adebisi.

On the other hand, the MSSN representatives included the society’s president, Azeez Abdulsomod, the vice president, Fawaz Adebisi, and the editor-in-chief, Abdulwasiu Akintunde.

During the visit, having congratulated the new Rector, PCM and MSSN highlighted issues troubling their students generally and members respectively.

Highlighting the issues, PCM presented an Editorial to the rector, highlighting the plights and demands of the students on campus.

Among the issues raised was the issue of convocation not being done despite yearly payments.

In the same vein, PCM hammered on the issue of delayed results, urging the new Rector to work on these two pressing issues on campus.

Others issues including sudden increment of school fees were discussed, urging the new Rector to use the editorial as a guide to solve issues on campus.

Also, the MSSN, having presented a Quran to the rector, stressed the act of lecturers fixing classes during Jumat Prayer time on Fridays.

“Students have been missing Jumat prayers due to the classes fixed by some lecturers, and we see this as one of the issues we need to solve,” said Adebisi.

Another issues raised is also the fixing of classes on every Wednesdays by 12pm and 2pm, which is dedicated for extra curriculum activities.

Dedicating that time for a program tagged “Faith Assurance Gathering (FAG),” by MSSN, students still give excuse of having class during this period, affecting the turnout.

The VP also talked about the harassment of Muslim Sisters, who are routine denied entry to the exam hall unless they remove their Hijabs.

Reacting to the issues highlighted, the rector appreciated the duo for their congratulatory messages.

He therefore said the management will work on the discussed issues.
