My Media Tour with the press club, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic was the greatest experience ever, it helped me a lot as I learned a lot in the field of print journalism and broadcasting.
My experience started right from the bus as I saw a lot of things that I have never seen before, and we had a lot of fun on the bus when going.
Our first location was 32 FM: 95.9 In Ibadan (Coca house, the tallest story building in Nigeria, a 24 story building). When we got to the radio station, I met a lot of media personalities there and we were shown different departments in the organization ranging from the Commercial department, Engineering department, program department, etc.
Commercial Department is further categorized into three subsections Finance, Traffic, and Marketing departments, with their various functions and contributions fully highlighted.
Engineering Department deals with taking care and handling the technical equipment in the media organizations. While the News Department is a place where information is been broadcasted to the people.
During the visit, a live program was ongoing which I love so much, programs are organized by the programming Department which comprises lots of talented people and graphics designers.
In addition, I also learned about how their day-to-day programs run (Break-a-dawn, Evening homer, and Night moonlight).
I saw the program room which is production room 2, where sounds are been produced and edited with equipment which includes monitors, a Mix box, an Air amplifier, a CD player, etc.
During the visit to 32 FM, I was able to know the meaning behind the name of the station which was derived from our set of 32 teeth depicting humor and it also serves as a means of entertainment.
In the same vein, I was able to visit the Nigeria Tribune, one of the oldest newspapers in Nigeria founded on November 16, 1949, by Obafemi Awolowo.
We started at the library where the old newspapers are kept, I had a lot of experience there as I was able to see newspapers in the 80s and 90s already bounded. I was also made to understand what newspaper cutting is i.eThe cutting of the news story from the newspaper, Then it is placed on plain paper, the Name, month, and the time.
In the editor’s room, we have different types of editors which are:sub, line, and news editors
The first publication of Nigeria Tribune Newspaper was in 1949. The match room is where the journalist reports their news.
As one of the staff of the Nigeria Tribune took us around the premises, we were told that Tribune celebrated its 70th Anniversary in 2019. After all, we ask lots of questions which were answered and we took a group picture. On our way back home, we went to Shoprite to have some fun, (We took pictures) and did some shopping.
In conclusion, I want to thank Press Club and all the Executives for organizing such a memorable and educative media tour. They all made it an interesting outing for me.
