An HND 1 student from the department of mass communication, Samson Omoniyi has been declared winner of the public speaking debate competition organized by the association body of the department.
The public speaking event which was keenly contested by 16 participants who spoke on various topics such as, the dichotomy of academic excellence and skills development: a threat to national development; not too young to run but too young to rule; and the paradigm shift in ethics of entertainment in Nigeria saw the emergence of six speakers to the final.
Samson, who emerged winner after his persuasive and insightful presentation on the topic, This is Nigeria, pointed out personal decision or perspective need to be changed as is the only key to the confusion Nigerians are into towards the country’s glory and future.
Earlier in his remarks, the head of the department, Mr Kolawole Amos, made it known that public speaking event was organized to showcase the uniqueness of the department to the world, noting that public speaking is the business of communicators.
He however, applauded the department executives for the initiative and as well on building on the legacy left behind by their predecessor, Ayodele led administration.
Mr Kolawole who later told the executives to make the public speaking debate competition a point of duty and annual tradition for every administration coming on board must achieve.
