Moshood Abiola Polytechnic’s much-anticipated Student Representative Council, SRC, election faced an unexpected setback on Thursday, resulting in its cancellation.
The decision was directly linked to delays in the release of crucial election results, creating a cloud of uncertainty and discontent among the student body.
Reports from the institution’s premises highlighted the frustration and confusion surrounding the handling of election-related matters.
Students expressed concerns over the management’s approach to validating results, demanding greater transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
Amidst the agitation, the spokesperson emphasized the need for results to be promptly available on the student portal for verification purposes.
They stressed the importance of each candidate having direct access to their results, advocating for interim leadership until transparency could be guaranteed.
“As an institution, if we don’t have a rector, we would have an acting rector to direct the institution affairs, as student we also need an acting leader to represent our interest.
“We want to have a leader to represent our interest but we want to see our results, then the election can take place,” he said.
During the agitation, the Director of Students’Affairs, DSA, Dr. Kolawole Amos explained that the election was postponed considering the students’ demand.
However, he stressed that their demands won’t prevent the school from holding her forthcoming examination.
He said, “we have shifted the date of the elections base on their demand, they have said they deserve the right to see their results and I quite agree with them, on that request, we have shifted it, when they now have their results the election will hold.
“Our intention was to tell the student their CGP for those who agreed and proceed with the election but the student demand to see the results on their portal.
“They have also gone ahead to say no exam until everyone sees their first semester exam on their portal with pass all courses.
“You cannot prevent the exam for being conducted and once the examination is being conducted, we are in another semester.”
