In a recent meeting initiated by a member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, and convened by Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology and alongside stakeholders at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) on November 6th, raising hopes for positive developments in the coming week.
Chairman of Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Prince Tajudeen Adeleye expressed optimism following the meeting, which included key figures such as Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, and Hon. Afolabi Afuape, a member of the Federal House of Representatives.
The session focused on addressing the institution’s challenges, stressing cooperation, sacrifices, and the imperative of government intervention as pivotal elements in finding a solution.
Representatives from various unions, including ASUP, SSANIP, NASU, and the Student Union, voiced their concerns, while MAPOLY’s management detailed financial constraints.
Commissioner Arigbabu underscored the need to avoid blame games and urged all stakeholders to collaborate to find a lasting solution.
He acknowledged the financial constraints faced by MAPOLY and revealed that the government couldn’t provide beyond its capacity.
While assuring the government’s commitment to intervene, Arigbabu emphasized that complete coverage of MAPOLY’s finances or salaries wasn’t feasible. The proposed school fee increment was mentioned as a potential solution to enhance MAPOLY’s financial standing in the upcoming session.
Despite being unable to disclose specific bailout details without gubernatorial approval, the Commissioner pledged to discuss the situation with the Governor.
He urged a swift resolution to the ongoing session and called for collective efforts from unions and other stakeholders.
In response, NASU Chairman, Prince Tajudeen Adeleye disclosed to Press Club MAPOLY that they are eagerly anticipating positive news by next week, reflecting the collective hope for a breakthrough in the challenging situation.
