Students jitter over suspected cult recruitment

Some students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta had been thrown into an atmosphere of fear over a suspected ongoing recruitment exercise by some cult groups in the institution.

Some students who spoke with our reporter in panic disclosed that two students who claimed to be members of Eye confraternity accosted them asking for their details.

The students in separate reports expressed despair, while some said they couldn’t believe cultism still exist on campus.

One of the panic students who spoke with our reporter on condition of anonymity said, "I was coming back from fellowship when two guys met me under the tree.

They introduced themselves as cult members and persuaded me to join. I told them the time I had is not enough for academic activities, so I can’t involve in something else.

"They insisted and asked for my number, I gave them a wrong number. I don’t know what will happen to me when next we see."

Another student who confided in our reporter said, "I never knew these cult groups still exist in MAPOLY, I was dumbfounded when these cult guys approached me.

"I’ve been acting freely on campus up till now. Now that I know the big brothers are here, I have to be careful.

"Before coming to MAPOLY, I’ve had stories of cult clashes. I came for Post UTME, no cult issue; I got admission; I did ND 1 and ND2; I had no encounter with cult guys. Even while on IT, I do visit the school and never for once get challenged by any cult member. Now that I’m counting down to round up my programmes in MAPOLY, the big brothers came. I’m scared but they will not succeed."

PCM reliably gathered this development prompted some students to gather for prayers in this effect.
