The postponement of the 2nd semester examination by the management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta for the third time has triggered reactions from anxious students.
The management announced on Sunday that the exam slated for 26th September 2022 will be postponed until further notice.
Press Club gathered that this will be the third time the exam would be suspended.
Shocked by the news, some students have expressed their disappointment, saying their preparations for the exam were in the final stages only to get informed it has been called off yet again.
The students, who have assumed the date of completion of the examination, said they were not happy about the indefinite suspension.
Speaking with Press Club, Akerele Juwon, an HND 2 student of Mass Communication, said he already has a bet with a friend about him being the first to graduate.
The final year student was however let down as the exam shift would alter his plans.
Juwon said, "The first time they postponed it, I was not shocked because I’m a little bit aware of the issue of the postponement."
"But we heard the management meet up with the Staff. So, I still don’t understand why they’ve postponed it again. They should have just let me finish this exam in peace and then do whatever. I told a friend of mine, I will be the first to graduate."
He said the trend of postponement of exams in MAPOLY was not unexpected.
But, he worries that his house rent would soon expire.
"Now, I don’t know what to tell the landlord who will soon be asking for rent ( since my house rent will expire by October)."
Also, a student of Science Laboratory Technology, Itunuoluwa Bukola stated that the eagerness of the students has once again been hurt.
Bukola added that most final-year students, who would have plans to execute post-exam, are most disappointed.
She however urged the management of the school to always consider the students in their policy.
She said, "Firstly, the school management suppose to have some meetings, which should not jeopardize the student academy."
Also speaking, Olaide Motunrayo, Mass Communication (HND 2) expressed that the postponing of the exam was not only discouraging but also annoying.
She said, "It’s so annoying because I should have been out of the school since August as a graduate, but this act [postponement of exam] delays me."
Motunrayo further stated that some students like herself are in the prime of financial difficulties.
Unlike others, Olakunle Joseph, Mass Comm (HND 1) was excited that the exam was shifted.
Joseph said his reason was that delay in lecturers’ salaries might ignite their aggression while supervising the students in exam halls.
"I will only be disappointed if the exam wasn’t postponed." He added," Well, I can’t imagine lecturers who haven’t collected salary for months coming into the examination hall to invigilate."
"If the exam commences today and they are yet to be paid then we should expect aggression from the invigilators in the hall."
Justifying why he was pleased with the exam being postponed, Joseph said, "My readiness for this exam is 2%."
