Security Consultant to the Ogun State Governor, CP Edwards Awolowo Psc (rtd), has strongly cautioned Nigerian students against surrendering their phones to security agencies during questioning.
He made this known during an event organized by Junior Chamber International (JCI) MAPOLY in collaboration with the Ogun state PCRC, focused on fostering positive relations between students and security agencies.
The event was held at Babalakin Hall, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday.
CP Edwards emphasized the importance of maintaining a harmonious relationship with both security agencies and school authorities as a means of upholding peace in the country.
He stressed that students must adhere to the laws set by security agencies and reminded them that they are among the 230 million Nigerians governed by the nation’s laws.
Dr. Edward underscored the significance of a peaceful campus environment, highlighting that the absence of peace could lead to lawlessness.
He called on all security agencies to handle encounters with Nigerian students with care, love, and empathy.
He, however, advised school management to allow students to affix their passport photographs to their admission letters and encouraged those without school ID cards to carry laminated passport photographs with their admission documentation to avoid harassment by security agencies.
