Students’ Union Electoral Committee has warned that students whose names are not contained in the voters register won’t vote during the Students’ Union Election of Friday, March 10, 2017.
The electoral committee also informed Press Club MAPOLY that students are to provide their school fee receipt, examination pass and school ID cards for accreditation before voting.
Chairman of the committee, Oluwadoyinsola Olaibi told Press Club MAPOLY that school fee receipt of the 2015/16 academic session duly verified and stamped by the Bursary unit and any other of the ID card or examination pass are essential requirements for participation in the election process.
He also said the examination card to be presented by the voters should be that of the 2015/16 session.
Olaibi revealed this to Press Club MAPOLY and the aspirants after the screening of the aspirants by the SUELECO on Tuesday.
This choice of these criteria were arrived at after the aspirants raised concerns over the SU due receipts issued during the administration of the Sodiq Usaefat-led Caretaker Committee.
The aspirants unanimously agreed with the SUELECO that the three items should be presented by the electorates who will partake in the election exercise.
The polytechnic counsellor, Dr. Rotimi Olukoya who represented the Director of Students’ Affairs said after the screening that there will be election orientation for electorates during the manifesto on Thursday.
He said representatives of the company in-charge will be present at the Main Hall of the 3-1 Communication lecture hall on Thursday during the manifesto to enlighten the students on the electronic voting.
Olukoya added that a comprehensive list of all eligible voters will be released before the election.
Meanwhile, management of the institution has declared Friday, March 10th a lecture-free day to pave way for the SU elections billed to hold same day.
According to a news release issued by Head, Public Relations Unit of the institution, Sulaimon Adebiyi on Tuesday, only full-time students presently in ND II and HND II are allowed to be in school to exercise their franchise.
The release reads in part, “the day has therefore been declared a lecture-free day.
“With this development, all newly admitted students (ND I and HND I) as well as all Part-Time students of the Polytechnic should steer clear of the campus on Friday, 10th March, 2017.
“Similarly, all others (including former students), who do not have any business with the election are warned to stay off the campus in their own interest,” Adebiyi said.
