The Students’ Union Government (SUG) at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, led by Oladele Prosper (Chemical), hosted its first-ever female 100m and sack races.
According to the event’s chairman, Ismail Adeyemo, the aim was to promote gender equality, empowerment, and inclusivity in sports among the students’ populace at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic.
The highly anticipated event, held at the Polytechnic Sports Complex on November 4th during the 2024 SUG Cup, tagged ‘Dr. Adeoye Odedeji Cup’, drew hundreds of enthusiastic spectators who cheered on the talented female athletes.
Female students from various departments on campus participated in the event.
Two student representatives each from Mass Communication, Accountancy, Business Administration, Office Technology Management (OTM), Pharmaceutical Technology, and Food Technology competed in the 100m race.
Meanwhile, one student from each team participated in the sack race.
The Business Administration team secured first place in both rounds of the 100m race, while the Office Technology Management (OTM) team took second place in the first round and the Mass Communication team took second place in the second round.
In the sack race, the Pharmaceutical Technology team took first place, the Accountancy team came in second, and the OTM team secured third place.
Reacting to the event, the student union president, Oladele Prosper, stated, “This event marks a significant milestone in our union’s commitment to creating a level playing field for all students. We are proud to provide opportunities for female students to showcase their athletic prowess and challenge stereotypes.”
