The Students Representative Council has revealed the reason for the suspension of the students’ union president, Adelola Hezekiah stating that he was working outside the stipulated constitutional duties.
According to the press statement jointly signed by the honourable speaker, Rt. Hon. Attu Suru Tiwaloye and the clerk of the House of Students’ Representative Council, Hon. Bello Yusuf, the president have been suspended for 48 hours from all student-related activities.
The following reasons have been tabled by the SRC for the suspension of the president:
The president works outside their constitutional duties.
The president is not dealing with the legislative arm on such matters which need to be addressed critically.
The president failed to use the Aluta Approach (3’C of Aluta).
During the time of interrogating the president, he said that a penalty fee will not be added to the school fees of the students but the press release is issued to prepare the student ahead of the penalty fee.
His words: ”I am not in support of the school, I am not in support of Non-Academic Staff Union because they are not paying me a dime.
“the press release is prepared for the students ahead of the penalty fee not saying the fee will be added.”
One of the Students Representative Council members condemned the SUG president for the press release that was issued on Monday explaining further that the management is responsible for the press release.
He added ”If the press release is signed by the Public Relations Officer of the institution there is no problem with your step”.
He also claimed that the sentence on the press release is backward.
Meanwhile, the speaker while delivering the judgment, explained that the prosecution has failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant is guilty of all charges against him.
“The president failed to use the Aluta Approach (3’C of Aluta) rather embraced style we don’t understand and it was not defended appropriately before the house”.
However, he ordered him to flee from the union property both assets and liability for the next 48 hours.
“From the time and date of the release, the vice president, Oduniyi Adebola shall continue to act as the president for the next 48 hours, which means the Comr. Adelola Hezekiah shall stay away from union property both asset and liability for the next 48 hours”.
Students Representative Council, however, urged all the representatives across all the constituencies to continue paying their school fees as it is important to pay duly.
“We urge all our representatives across all the constituencies to continue paying their school fees as it is important to pay duly while those who have issues should complain directly to the appropriate quarters( HOD, DSA CITM, SRC, SUG unit)”.
