SUG vs Mg’t, Elect-Elect: MAPOLY Exam Dispute Takes Center Stage

The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Student Union Government, under the aegis of Prosper Oladele, has threatened the institution’s management to halt all examination proceedings expected to start on Monday.

The threat, which came through a press statement on Sunday regarding the previously scheduled examination, now postponed until November 11, 2024.

The statement, titled “No Results, No Exam: SUG Demands Action From Management,” criticized the administration for its lack of transparency and failure to resolve academic issues before holding examinations for students.

The statement highlighted several problems: “Unresolved Academic Issues: The non-release of past semester results has left many students uncertain about their academic progress.

“Lack of Transparency: The institution’s failure to provide timely results undermines students’ trust in the academic system.

“Injustice to Affected Students: Students who may have issues with their results are denied the opportunity to address them before proceeding to the next examination.”

The SUG therefore demands the following: “Immediate Release of Past Semester Results: The SUG demands that the institution releases all outstanding results before the commencement of the forthcoming examination.

“Transparent Academic Process: The SUG calls for a transparent and timely academic process, ensuring students receive their results promptly.

“Addressing Academic Issues: The institution must provide a clear mechanism for addressing academic issues and concerns.”

However, one of the departments, Electrical Electronics Engineering, issued a statement distancing itself from any initiative to halt the exam on Monday.

In a statement, the department president, Ajayi John, stated that it is not associated with any party seeking to disrupt the examination process on Monday.

He said, “The EED CBT Exam for ND1 and HND1 starts tomorrow, Monday, November 4. The full second semester exams begin on November 11. The exam timetable will be released before the end of today.”

John urged his students to disregard any misinformation and not participate in “any protests regarding unreleased results, since our results have been posted.”

In response to the tense situation, the management issued a statement postponing the examination date.

According to the Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, on Sunday evening, disclosed that the exam has now been postponed until November 11, 2024.

Ajibola stated, “The authorities of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, have announced a shift in the commencement of the 2nd semester examination, originally scheduled for Monday, November 4, to November 11, 2024.

“This decision was made to allow students who have not completed their registrations to do so before Friday, November 8, 2024.”
