The Abegite Coordinator, Amure Tosin, has debunked the alleged claims that the club was suspended for involving into immoral activities.
Rumour going viral was that the club had incorporated non-students into one of their meetings who started violence that led to disagreements and invited the presence of the securities. They were further alleged to have been involved in smoking and excessive drinking in the meeting.
The Coordinator, who spoke with Press Club Mapoly exclusively said the club and its members were never guilty of the alleged rumors stressing that the Students Affairs Department stopped the meeting due to the incomplete renewal processes of the club and other private reasons.
He said, "well rumours would always be rumours. We were suspended because we didn’t get approval from the DSA office. All Associations on campus need to go through some process before given license to operate. We haven’t gotten the last one from the DSA office that’s why we were suspended, moreover we had issues of external Students from other departments.
"My executives and I were not aware of anyone smoking. There is a zero tolerance for Alcohol consumption or Smoking in the environment of our club!..And if there is any, we have the Security men to make arrest! Cause definitely that person isn’t one of us. The crowd was too much than expected… Especially from other departments so we had to put a stop to it to avoid conflict which could jeopardize d club.
"There are no form of abnormalities and if there are any, we have the staff adviders, DSA and Security who would help us cub any matters arising that could cause havoc. Also, to the best of my knowledge everyone who come around the environment of the club are always of good behavior and we have never had issues beyond our control. "
Saying further, he maintained that the purpose of the club was to Educate,Entertain,Communicate adding, "the club is meant to provide a serene environment for students to relax and socialize."
However, Amure assured that the regular Wednesday meetings would recommence as soon as all registration processes are completed.
