Rufus Emmanuel, the winner of the 2020/2021 Association of Mass Communication Students (AMACOS) Public Speaking Competition has revealed that words from haters was the catalyst to seeing him emerge winner of the competition.
It will be recalled that Emmanuel participated in the last edition held during the 2019/2020 academic session, emerging fourth.
This session’s edition tagged ‘Voice The Penned’, the fourth edition in history, spearheaded by the incumbent president of AMACOS, Comr. Babatunde Ridwan was held on Monday at the Main Hall of the Mass Communication building.
15 students participated in the competition with Endurance Annie, ND1 coming third, Violet Olasuyi, ND1 coming second and Rufus Emmanuel, ND2 scooping the first position.
Reacting to his victory, Emmanuel expressed his excitement emerging as the winner which he said compensated for the fourth position he felt he was unjustly given last session.
He revealed that his mom and friends did well to encourage him after a disappointing result in the last edition, which he ascribed as the spur that made him go back to the drawing board to restrategize to emerge the winner this session.
His words, “Words from haters remoulded me. I appreciate you all.”
Emmanuel urged all who participated to not give up because they never emerged victorious, saying such does not mean that they won’t make it tomorrow.
N30,000 cash prize was announced as the prize for the first position with N20,000 and N10,000 going to second and third position respectively with consolatory gifts attached.
