After Nine Years, MAPOLY Prepares for Historic Convocation Ceremony

For the first time since 2016, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Abeokuta is set to hold a long-awaited convocation ceremony, gearing up excitement for her graduating students.

Convocation ceremonies are a vital tradition in higher institutions, serving as a formal recognition of academic achievements while inspiring graduates as they transition into professional life.

However, MAPOLY held her last convocation in 2016, making it nine years since the celebration held.

After nearly a decade without one, MAPOLY is gearing up to make this event a memorable one under the leadership of its new Rector, Arc. Dr. Babatunde Jolaoso.

Dr. Jolaoso, the first alumnus to serve as Rector in the 46-year history of the institution, assumed office on December 4, 2024.

In a recent meeting held at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Hall, OGD Auditorium, with top management and staff members, he outlined his vision for MAPOLY.

His priorities include rebranding the Polytechnic, improving staff welfare, fostering unity, encouraging innovation, and reviving the NEEDS assessment plan—all aimed at addressing key challenges, particularly financial constraints.

As gathered by Press Club MAPOLY, during the meeting, Dr. Jolaoso discussed crucial issues concerning the institution’s growth and stability of the institution.

He emphasized that the upcoming convocation is just one of many initiatives his administration plans to implement to restore MAPOLY’s reputation among Nigeria’s leading polytechnics.

“We are already working towards organizing a befitting convocation ceremony,” Dr. Jolaoso said. “It will not only be a celebration for graduating students but also an opportunity for our alumni worldwide to reconnect with their alma mater and contribute to its development.”

The Rector, alongside his Deputy, Dr. Mrs. Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda, disclosed that preparations are in full swing, with financial planning and strategic discussions underway.

He further revealed that a formal proposal for the convocation would be presented at the next Governing Council meeting.

In support of this initiative, Comrade Philip Adebanjo Ogunsipe, the Deputy Registrar and non-academic member of the Governing Council, affirmed that MAPOLY aims to institutionalize convocation ceremonies as a regular academic tradition, ensuring they take place as scheduled in the future.
