Sulaimon Keruwole a distinguished alumnus of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Abeokuta, has charged student journalists to embrace developmental journalism as a tool for institutional transformation and storytelling.
Mr. Keruwole, a former Copy Editor of the Press Club MAPOLY, PCM, returned to his alma mater on July 24, 2025, to train the current executives and general members of the Press Club on the role of campus journalism in shaping the MAPOLY brand.
The training, held at Room 2 of the Old Mass Communication Building, was organized at the invitation of PCM President, Lateef Gbadamosi.
In his lecture, Mr. Keruwole emphasized four key areas in using journalism as a catalyst for development within the campus. He urged student journalists to “begin telling our own stories” and to decide how and why those stories should be told.
“We must focus on exposing problems, but more importantly, offering solutions,” he said. “That is the essence of developmental journalism, telling stories that push MAPOLY forward.”
He also addressed the growth of PCM, reminding members that the club belongs to all departments and not just Mass Communication students. “Journalism is not exclusive. Every student with a passion for the truth and storytelling should be part of PCM,” he asserted.
Mr. Keruwole further encouraged members to collaborate with the school’s management and expand recruitment efforts to attract students from various faculties.
His lecture ended with an engaging interactive session, during which students asked critical questions on the future of PCM and practical steps to engage in impactful reporting. Providing insightful answers, he left the attendees inspired and motivated.
