MAPOLY Rectifies NELFUND Glitches, Urges Students To Apply For Loan

The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Abeokuta, has rectified the glitches on the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, portal, making it impossible for students to access the Federal Government loan.

Last week, in response to growing anxiety, the school confirmed a minor technical glitch originating from NELFUND, however, the Polytechnic’s ICT team actively dialogued with NELFUND’s Managing Director and ICT Director with a follow-up email being sent. 

“It is a glitch in communication from the NELFUND. The Polytechnic is in further communication with them to resolve. During the week, we had a conference call-meeting of their MD and their ICT director with our Head,  ICT. A follow up email was also sent to them. Their response thereto is being awaited. Hopefully, it should be sorted out by the coming week,” the institution said last week.

As a result, the institution has successfully rectified the glitch as students can now go ahead to apply for the FG loan.

While some students remain hesitant or skeptical about the loan, available data suggests that the initiative is already transforming access to education for thousands nationwide.

So far, over 658,000 students have registered on the NELFUND portal, with more than 626,000 successful applications recorded. Of these, 366,247 students have already received support, resulting in a 94% success rate from registration to final approval.

According to the NELFUND statistics, in just one day, July 7, 1,034 new users registered and 1,656 students submitted their applications, demonstrating both interest and trust in the platform. 

Also, across the country, 206 tertiary institutions have benefited, with N38.2 billion paid directly to schools and N34.8 billion disbursed as stipends to students for feeding and transportation. This brings the total fund distribution to N73.1 billion.

These figures serve as a compelling reason for eligible MAPOLY students to embrace the opportunity.

In the same vein, Dr. Aninkan, the institution’s Director of Student Affairs and chairman of the MAPOLY NELFUND Mobilization Committee, stated in an interview with Press Club MAPOLY, PCM, in March, that more than 500 MAPOLY students have already applied for the loan, and over N47 million has been allocated.

To further improve accessibility and eliminate confusion, he stressed that the Polytechnic is implementing several key interventions.

Regarding eligibility, Dr. Aninkan clarified that only full-time ND1 and HND1 students with matriculation numbers can apply. Final-year students in ND2 and HND2, as well as part-time students, are not eligible, though future phases of the loan may consider them.

One major concern among students has been data security, especially around the use of NINs. Dr. Aninkan emphasized that the platform is secure and that students’ personal details cannot be misused or exposed.

To reassure students further, the NELFUND Mobilization Committee includes representatives of the Students’ Union Government, ensuring student voices are heard throughout the implementation process.

MAPOLY is therefore urging students to stay calm, participate in the process, and take full advantage of what is proving to be one of the most impactful student-support systems in Nigeria’s education sector today.
