MAPOLY Students Decry Lack of Lecture Halls, Demand Improved Visibility

Students of the Department of Tourism Management Technology and Hospitality Management Technology at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, have raised concerns over the lack of dedicated lecture halls and the department’s declining visibility on campus.

The Honorable Representative of the department of Tourism Management Technology and Hospitality Constituency 2 , Hon. Temitope Adesewa Adéyẹmí lamented the deteriorating state of facilities that once made the department a standard during her National Diploma days between 2015 and 2017.

Adéyẹmí noted that although the institution has been working to recover from past setbacks, the Tourism department still requires urgent attention.

She said “The department was fully functional and well-equipped during my ND years. But challenges over the years have caused serious setbacks,” she said. “We know the management is trying its best, but we are appealing for more support so our department is not left behind.”

According to her, the absence of a dedicated lecture hall has forced Tourism students to share classrooms with the Mass Communication department, using Rooms 1 to 5 and the Tourism Studio for their lectures.

Hon. Adéyẹmí also highlighted the department’s low visibility due to its remote location near the School of Environmental Studies.

“Our department is at the far end of the campus, and many students don’t even know it exists,” she said. “We want the Honourable Speaker to help communicate our concerns to the management so awareness can be created across the institution.” She added

She further appealed for the department’s Tourism Village and its hut to be equipped with modern learning facilities, describing them as valuable assets that currently lack the tools needed for effective training.

In addition, Hon. Adéyẹmí called for the recruitment of more young and qualified lecturers to boost the department’s academic strength.

She said “Our lecturers are competent, but we need more hands,” she stressed.

“There are many fresh graduates exposed to modern trends and technologies. Recruiting them will enhance our academic experience and future career opportunities.” She said

The students expressed hope that their concerns will be urgently addressed to improve their learning conditions and restore the department’s prominence within the institution.
