The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that the Federal Government has suspended students’ upkeep allowance payments under the student loan scheme, describing the claims as false and misleading.Press club gathered that NELFUND refuted what it described as fabricated publications making rounds online, including a statement falsely attributed to the agency and an alleged newspaper front page purportedly from The Nigerian Tribune.According to the Fund, the publications are fake and designed to create panic, confusion, and distrust among student loan beneficiaries and the general public.NELFUND stated unequivocally that neither the Federal Government nor the agency has issued any directive suspending students’ upkeep allowances.“The publications in circulation did not originate from NELFUND or any authorized government communication channel,” the statement noted Added that the newspaper front page currently being shared online was generated using artificial intelligence and does not represent a genuine publication from The Nigerian Tribune.The agency reaffirmed its commitment to the transparent and efficient disbursement of student loans and upkeep support in line with its mandate to expand access to higher education in Nigeria.It urged beneficiaries, stakeholders, and members of the public to disregard unverified reports and rely solely on information disseminated through NELFUND’s official communication channels and credible media platforms.NELFUND also cautioned against the spread of misinformation, warning that sharing unverified content could fuel unnecessary anxiety among students and parents nationwide.
