The Student Representative Council (SRC) election at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) witnessed an alarmingly low voter turnout, largely due to network issues and difficulties in accessing the voting portal.
Many students reported being unable to cast their votes due to technical problems, raising concerns about the reliability of the electoral process.
Despite 3,686 accredited voters, only 152 students managed to participate in the election held at the Directorate of Students Affairs Building from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on election day.
The election results revealed that several candidates won seats with as few as one or two votes, with the highest vote count reaching just 50.
The situation has sparked conversations about the level of awareness, student engagement, and the impact of technical challenges on voter participation.

The election process faced a minor technical issue that delayed proceedings by an hour, resulting in an extension from the initial closing time of 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
However, the Students’ Union Electoral Committee (SUELECO) Chairman, Adeleke Nasiru, assured that the election was conducted in a free and fair manner.
Adeleke also announced that departments without elected representatives would have a bye-election at a later date to ensure full student representation.
The elected representatives will be officially sworn into office on Friday, the 21st, at Jibodu Hall by 11 a.m.

I will love to take it from this “ The election process faced a minor technical issue that delayed proceedings by an hour, resulting in an extension from the initial closing time of 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.”..
I will bodly say the election wasn’t free and fair cause according to the students they weren’t able to connect to their portal cause the SUG portal wasn’t allowing them to gain access to it ..
This same portal was working long before the due date for election and as at 10am students tried to login to the portal in other to cast their votes and all of a sudden the portal started acting somehow and yet its a free and fair election that way ?
Students weren’t able to login to portal to vote and According to the number of votes ,
SLT aspirants one has 35 and the other 50?
lol let the Sueleco make this make sense to us cause I can actually tell you that this wasn’t a free and fair election and this process have been happening for long , which whenever Election Day comes the portal is always like that , what’s the essence of having a portal which can’t give access to voting and they will end up saying people casted votes which wasn’t so ..
lol this isn’t a free and fair election but A free and fair Appointment..
@were laye fe:
If you think it is easy, then build your own portal too. This is a technical issue, and I believe you should reply with technical sense and mindset. Don’t come here and rant
